US-provided Stinger missile package arrives in Taiwan...China threatens with aircraft carrier
As China's aircraft carrier Shandong passes through the Taiwan Strait, it is a sign that military tensions between the two countries are rising again.

According to the Taiwan Central News Agency, Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense announced on May 27th that three Chinese naval vessels, including the Shandong, passed through the Taiwan Strait at noon local time and moved northwest.

A Taiwanese military official said, "We mobilized air force aircraft and warships to closely monitor movements."

The FIM-92 Air Defense Missile (Stinger Missile) is part of the $500 million worth of weapons that the U.S. Joe Biden government is trying to send to Taiwan on a 'fast track.' It recently arrived in Taiwan, it is interpreted that China has responded.

At a regular press conference on the 26th, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said, "It was a grave mistake and an extremely dangerous act," and said, "We will firmly protect national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity while closely monitoring the development of the situation."

Prior to this, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin attended a hearing before the Senate Appropriations Committee on the issue of competition with China on the 16th and announced that he would soon launch substantial additional security assistance to Taiwan.

The United States provides arms support to Taiwan based on the Taiwan Relations Act of 1979. The law deals with commercial, cultural and other ties between the United States and Taiwan, and stipulates in writing that the future of Taiwan cannot be determined by any means other than peaceful means.
